More memories of my youth:
As a child, one could wish for no more beautiful a place to live than the picturesque Orange Free State. The eternal Rolling Meadows and English-style countryside made your every waking moment a joy to behold.
Sunday brunch at the Bambi Road House or Kroonstad Country Club was always an epicurean delight! My favorite was always the Chicken peri-peri delivered elegantly by Crispin "black boy" Mapele, our waitperson of choice at the time.
Warm exchanges like "Waar is die vokken houtkop met ons kos?" would pervade the air as folks dug in to their tasty fare. Another treat would be the never-ending bowl of Kerrie en Rys! Enjoy folks but watch out for the gizzards and gristle!!!
Then there were those rare Hol-Naai, Tou Trek and Jukskei Festivals, which, for a young white lad, there was no equal!
Be still my beating heart!
